How does the Vampire Facial work?

The Vampire Facial combines two effective skin treatments: microneedling followed by platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT), creates micro-injuries on the surface of the skin with fine needles to renew collagen and elastin production. PRP, a natural component of the blood, contains growth factors that enhance the skin’s healing process. By combining PRP with microneedling, the Vampire Facial provides faster, more noticeable results than microneedling treatments alone. (For some patients, we may recommend Aquagold mesotherapy instead.)

What are the benefits of the Vampire Facial?

The Vampire Facial is safe on all skin tones and exposed areas, which commonly include the face, neck, décolletage, and hands. These treatments benefit the skin in many ways, such as:

What should I expect during this treatment?

The Vampire Facial is an office treatment that takes about an hour to complete. We prepare the skin with a numbing cream to minimize any discomfort. We then take a small amount of blood from your arm with a syringe and then separate the platelets from the red and white blood cells with a specialized centrifuge.

Once the skin is numb, we make multiple passes over the skin with the microneedling pen to ensure even coverage. The needles move rapidly up and down in a tapping motion that feels like a gentle vibration with sandpaper on the skin. PRP is spread over the skin throughout the process so that it can penetrate into the tiny micro-injuries. The PRP is not blood-red like you may have seen in the media; instead, it is a translucent yellow.

Once microneedling is complete, the remaining PRP is spread over the skin; we recommend allowing it to be absorbed for the rest of the day to maximize results (6 to 12 hours).

What is recovery like after the Vampire Facial?

There are no restrictions on your activities after treatment. Most patients return home and rest to let the topical PRP soak in. Your skin may be dry, red, and sensitive for the first few days, like a mild sunburn. These effects may last longer with more aggressive treatments. You will need to allow the micro-injuries in the skin to close, so avoid using cleansers, makeup, or lotion on the treated skin for 24 hours.

How many treatments will I need?

Typically, a series of two to three Vampire Facials spaced four weeks apart will provide optimal rejuvenation.

When will I notice the results?

Improvements develop gradually as the micro-injuries heal and collagen is replenished. Most patients will see final results in about two to three months.

How long do Vampire Facial results last?

Final results last one to two years depending on your age, lifestyle, and sun exposure. The aging process will continue, so you will need maintenance treatments periodically.
